overwhelmed in the garden

Don’t let your sanctuary become the last place on earth you want to be. Use these 5 tips to help you when the projects are piling up and you are feeling overwhelmed in the garden.

It’s a jungle out there.

Looking out into the overgrown jungle in the middle of the summer heat, it can be less than motivating to get out there and take care of all the garden chores.

The small relief of rain will only keep my to-do list (along with the weeds) growing even longer.

The work never seems to end.

  • Overgrown weeds needing to be pulled.
  • A tomato jungle needing to be tamed.
  • Aphids. Cabbage worms. Japanese beetles.
  • Yellowing and wilting leaves.

It all needs to be done. But how?

1. Make a list

Grab a cup of coffee, a note pad, and take a walk through your garden.

Make a list of everything you see that needs to be done.

From the very smallest of tasks to the largest, and everything in between.

Making a list will help you keep track of what needs to be done and it’s really satisfying checking things off as you complete them.

2. Divvy up the garden

Divide the garden into sections that work best with your garden design and tackle tasks by section.

3. Prioritize tasks

Once you have your list together, put a star next to the projects that need your attention ASAP.

Weeding the beds will be able to wait a day or two while you tackle those hornworms making a feast out of your tomatoes.

4. Do a little each day

How do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time.

Set aside a certain amount of time to work on the garden.

If you need to, set a timer so you don’t get lost and burnt out from projects.

5. Remember why you started

In the heat of the summer motivation can be really hard to find in the jungle that was once a garden.

Remember why you started your garden to help keep you motivated to keep going.

The last thing you want is to feel burnt out from taking care of the garden and just give up all together.

Don’t forget to take breaks and just sit and enjoy the beauty of your garden.
