I came across The Organic Studies my second-year homeschooling. This curriculum drastically changed the way I homeschooled and made me a more confident homeschooler.

I realized that I didn’t need to fill my children’s days with workbooks and boring textbooks. (That the kids and I both dreaded.)

That we could sit literally anywhere and just read together.

Play together.

Do art together.

And they loved every second of it. (And so did I.)

Soaking in every bit of information that I read to them. Their faces lit up with each and every lesson.

A Typical Lesson with The Organic Studies

Explore

Before we begin, I will collect all of the core non-fiction books, open them to the pages we need for the day’s lesson, and spread them out covering my entire kitchen table like a feast. (or picnic table, or living floor, or wherever we want to learn that day.)

The lesson plan will detail what pages to cover and read. It will also provide discussion topics and any questions to ask.

By having all the books waiting and ready in this manner, there is no down time for my kids to get distracted while I’m fumbling through books and our lesson runs rather fluidly.

Art and Play

After, we will move on to the art project or recommended play activity.

Read Aloud

I have a very active bunch of children and after doing the lessons and art, they are ready to get out and move around.

For this reason, I like to save the read aloud for bedtime when everyone is cozy and settled down together for the night.

Why We Love The Organic Studies

Flexibility

The Organic Studies has 34 weeks of lessons that are broken down into 26 individual units.

The units do not build upon each other so we can complete them in any order we wish.

It makes it so much easier to hold your child’s interest when you can work on units that are most appealing to them.

Thorough, easy to follow lesson plans

The lesson plans are simple and easy to follow. Each lesson includes questions and areas of discussion to help guide our lessons.

Family style learning

Having a large family, it is a huge plus that I can teach all of my children from the same curriculum at the same time.

The Organic Studies is recommended for children ages 5-12 (or older or younger depending on your child).

Four days of lessons

The Organic Studies has four days of lessons with a fifth day that has a suggested movement activity or field trip idea.

We have co-op one day a week, so I am not scrambling trying to fit five days of lessons in within four days of schoolwork.

Charlotte Mason inspired book lists

We have discovered many favorite books from the provided booklists. And now, have a shelf full of amazing core books.

All reading selections are high-quality informational (and some fictional) books most with beautiful, detailed artwork.

You will not find any twaddle here!

Secular (and Non-Secular)

The Organic Studies is, by itself, a secular curriculum. However, there is an option to add on a religious component.

The Word Studies is available to use along with The Organic Studies if you wish to add a biblical view to their homeschool.

A ton of extras

When my kids dive deep into a lesson and are yearning for more, I have all pre-screened extras right at my fingertips.

Every unit has a long list of additional books, activities, and other resources for further investigation.
