We go through a lot of bread in my house.

And since I’m making bread just about every day, I need a recipe that is quick, easy and above all else – delicious.

This sandwich bread recipe checks all those boxes and it makes two loaves.

So there’s a loaf for now and one for later. Or if you have a large family like me, you will have two loaves for now.

Here’s what you need:

  • 2 cups warm water (needs to be 110°F to activate the yeast)
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1½ tbs active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 5-6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp avocado oil

Here’s What to Do:

1. Make the dough

In the bowl of a stand mixer (or mixing bowl), dissolve 1 tablespoon of sugar in two cups of warm water (110℉). After it’s dissolved, mix in 1½ tablespoons of dry active yeast.

Note: Water needs to be 110℉ to activate the yeast.

Allow the yeast to proof until it looks like a creamy, bubbly foam. This should take about 5 minutes.

Note: Yeast that doesn’t bubble is expired. It’s time to buy new yeast.

Once the yeast is bubbly, stir in the salt, melted butter and remaining sugar.

(You can use almost any oil you have on hand. You could even use melted butter if you’d like. I prefer to use avocado oil in place of butter in my baking.)

With the mixer fitted with the hook attachment, start to add in the flour, one cup at a time, until the dough is tacky and comes clean from the sides of the bowl.

If the dough is:

  • Too dry – add in more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
  • Too tacky – add in more flour, one tablespoon at a time.

2. Let it rise

When the dough is done, place it inside a well-oiled bowl and cover it with a clean, damp towel.

Set it aside in a warm area and let it rise for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.

3. Shape it

Once the dough has doubled, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.

Divide the dough into two pieces and form them each into a loaf shape.

Place each loaf into its own oiled (or buttered) 9×5 loaf pans. Cover and set them aside for the second rise.

Let them rise for 30 minutes or until the dough has risen about an inch above the pans.

4. Bake it

Pop the loaves into a preheated 350℉ oven for about 40 minutes.

The timer will probably be going off right around the time your whole house is filled with the heavenly smell of fresh baked bread.

Note: An internal reading of 190℉ with an instant read thermometer ensures the perfect doneness.

Allow the loaves to cool completely before slicing.

Or tear off a piece while it’s still warm, put some butter or jelly on that baby, and enjoy!
