How to Interplant

Interplanting, (also referred to as intercropping) is a method of planting certain crops together to increase growing space in the garden.

While increasing garden space is a huge benefit to interplanting, there are also many other benefits.

Benefits of Interplanting

  • Attracts beneficial insects and pollinators
  • Helps repel pests
  • Reduces disease
  • Less space for weeds
  • Increases soil health

Interplant with Vegetables

Crops that don’t compete with each other for space or food are ideal interplanting companions.

  • Cucumbers and Peas
  • Radishes and Onions
  • Radishes and Garlic
  • Beets and Brassicas (Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts)

Tucking herbs in among your crops saves space and may help increase the crops flavor.

  • Parsley and Garlic

Interplant with Flowers

Flowers not only add beauty to the garden but also attract beneficial insects and pollinators and may help repel pests.
