Every gardener had to learn how to garden from somewhere. They weren’t born knowing how to garden. (At least I don’t think so anyway.)
Gardening can feel overwhelming at first – especially when you don’t know where or how to start.
Fortunately, there is a TON of great resources out there.
Check out these top 3 gardening books to get you started.
The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible
By Edward C. Smith
This is a book lives up to its title and is one you need to have in your library.
From talking about his method of deep, raised beds, to starting seeds, and collecting the harvest, this book goes into detail about all the ins and outs of gardening.
I especially love the index in the back that really breaks down how to grow all different vegetables and herbs.
It was the very first gardening book I purchased, and I still refer back to it every season.
The Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook
By Jennifer Kujawski and Ron Kujawski
It can overwhelming learning how to garden and trying to figure out what tasks to do and when.
This book breaks it all down for you week-by-week so you are able to handle all the tasks in a timely manner (and without forgetting the little things.) The pages are filled with tons of tips and tricks along with some helpful DIYs.
The First-Time Gardener: Growing Vegetables

One night while looking up gardening videos on Youtube I stumbled across Jessica’s channel: Roots and Refuge. (I very highly recommend also checking her videos out on there!)
Her passion for gardening and teaching others shows in both her videos and book.
